Tips on Cleaning Your Shed

  21 April 2014

Correct maintenance is essential if you want to extend the lifespan of your steel shed or garage.

If your shed is already established on your property, then there are certain maintenance procedures you can follow in order to ensure its lifespan and cleanliness. Remove all dust, dirt and condensation in areas that are not exposed to rainfall. By doing this monthly, you will assist in keeping corrosion at bay. Washing down the building with a mild soap solution and rinsing thoroughly is vital for good maintenance.

If your shed is new and has been constructed from steel, you will need to ensure that all construction debris such as filings and abrasive dust have all been removed. Debris such as this can cause localised corrosion to steel buildings. Do this by using a soft bristle brush and rinse thoroughly.

Chemical removal is vital for your sheds maintenance and can have harsh corrosive effects on the materials if allowed to remain. Moisture retention agents such as clay also ash and fertilisers can have the same effect on your steel building.

If you are located in a coastal area, extra care will be required due to increased salt in the air. Ocean front properties will experience the most corrosion of all, so the maintenance is crucial if your steel building is located directly near a beach.

It need not be difficult you can simply incorporate this task into your everyday life. When you water the lawn, make sure you wash down the shed also. Be sure to check with councils if you are unsure of water restrictions prior to these procedures.

Shed maintenance now will ensure that you extend the lifetime of your garage or workshop and also retain the splendour of your steel building. Therefore increasing the value and appeal of your property.
