Mid North Coast Shed Building: Complying and Exempt Development.

  29 May 2014

If you are planning on building a steel building on your property in the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, then it may be necessary to apply for complying development approval.

Complying Development
Complying development is a certificate that is issued to buildings that do need council approval. It stipulates the steel building has been certified and that the specifications and plans for that building complies with the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979. The Hastings Council or a privately accredited building certifier can issue the complying development certificate.

Exempt Development
The exempt development is for projects that don't require construction approval, providing development standards are met. However, you may still need to obtain other approvals, licences and permits. It is in your best interests to contact the Port Macquarie Hastings Council to get further clarification from them.

Either way, it is your responsibility as the consumer to seek out if you will need to comply with this application or if you are exempt. Your best bet is to contact a local building certifier and give them details about the steel building you are planning on buying. They should be able to provide you with the correct information.
