PRICES KEEP RISING

The global price of steel is skyrocketing. This is now the 5th price rise we have experienced since the beginning of 2021.

This many price rises in a single year is unheard of and is being driven by global demand of iron ore and coking coal which are two key ingredients to the production of our great Aussie steel.

• The price of iron ore has hit it's 10-year high at more than $290/ton AUD in May 2021. At the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, China announced an industrial stimulus to reignite their economy. This is great news for the demand of our Aussie steel, but bad news for us in regards to steel prices. China's imports jumped more than 150% in 2020 if you look into this Nikkei Asia article. If you keep reading, you will see that they don't predict that the price of steel to peak until 2023. So you can bet that there are more price rises to come.
• In Feb 2021, even coking coal saw a jump in price. This is yet another key ingredient in the production of steel. Our Aussie coal mines have been benefitting big time as the demand for their resource has increased but it also means that the price of steel is affected. 
• All over the world when Covid hit countries big time, steel production and factories worldwide came to a screaming halt. Since then, multiple productions plants are still yet to resume to full capacity and the demand for steel has skyrocketed to never before seen levels. This is just one extra factor that is leading the price rises we are all feeling.
