Development Applications for Garages in Ipswich

  24 June 2014

There are different building requirements in every state and region in relation to building a garage, and in the case of building a steel garage in Ipswich, there are a few things one must consider. The team at Sheds n Homes Ipswich, Queensland, have put together a brief guide to help you on the way.

First and foremost, it is important that you understand the kind of building you are buying. You are obviously looking for a steel garage; however, a steel garage that is intended for non-inhabitable private use is considered a Class 10a building.

Development Application
Size is an important factor when determining if you will need council approval for your new steel structure. In Ipswich, if the total area of your Class 10a building is greater than 10m², the span or length is greater than 5 metres or wall height is more than 2.1 metres, then your building will likely require a development application. Most Class 10a buildings will require development applications; there are only a few exceptions.

What is required for a Development Application?
You will need to supply the following documentation in order for the Ipswich council to assess your application:

  • Forms 1 and 2: Building Application
  • Engineer's certificate
  • Site plans drawn to scale
  • Stormwater discharge details; and
  • An application fee

The information we have provided here is just a brief overview of what is required, and should be used as a guide only. It is highly recommended that you contact the Ipswich City Council directly, or visit their website at www.ipswich.qld.gov.au.
